"The best  program I have gone to"

A student at Central Elementary talks about his participation in the Earn a Bike Program:

Q: What new skills did you gain from participating in the program?
A: We learned about bike safety, different gears, how the bike works, and what the different types of bikes are. I got a mountain bike.

Q: How has your behavior in school changed since you started the program?

A: Good, because they helped me be more focused. I was able to do what I wanted to do which is be in Community Bike Works.

Q: If you had to say one good thing about the program, what would it be?

A: This is the best program I have ever gone to.

Join us to make a difference

We can do what we do at Community Bike Works only because of our volunteers and community supporters. Whether you want to donate an old bike, make a financial contribution, or spend time with students, we are looking for YOU!

DONATE A BIKE.
We accept any bike - any size and any condition - for our youth development programs. We especially always need boys' 20" BMX-style bikes. We are generally open for bike drop offs from noon to 5:30 pm Monday-Thursday and noon to 5 pm on Fridays. We suggest calling before you come to confirm that we’re here and not out on a bike ride: 610.434.1140.

Many organizations and local businesses have held bike drives that allow people to clear out their garages while helping the students of Community Bike Works. Interested? Please call 610.434.1140.

SPONSOR A STUDENT. Your donation of any size will help us serve the young people of Allentown and the Lehigh Valley. Please consider a recurring donation - it's easy for you, and your ongoing support allows us to make the most efficient use of funds.

VOLUNTEER. Each year, more than 80 volunteers spend thousands of hours with students and in other roles. Our volunteers return because we offer fun and meaningful ways in which to engage with students. Volunteer roles include:

Earn a Bike instructor/mentor. No mechanical experience necessary!
6 pm - 8pm one weeknight for 13 weeks.

After-school mentor. Teach students something of interest to you, arrange a trip,
join a bike ride, or simply engage with students. 3:30 pm - 5:30 pm weekdays.

Committee member.Serve on a committee of the board: Events, Volunteers,
Facilities, Fund Development, and Board
Development. Each meets as determined
by chair.  Generally 1 time/month.

Additional support. Help with shopping, snack preparation, printing and copying,

     or building maintenance. Flexible.

SPONSOR A BIKE RIDE. Community Bike Works schedules regular Saturday bikes rides each spring and summer—more than a dozen each year.

The sponsor of a bike ride--either an individual or a company--provides snacks and beverages for the bike ride attendees at an agreed upon location and time. We generally  meet at Community Bike Works at 10 am and return by 2 pm. It's a great opportunity for your company to make a real difference in the community! Click the link for details.
