Entry into Community Bike Works is through Earn a Bike. Kids (ages 9-17)sign a contract and commit to a minimum of 24 hours in Earn A Bike. In twelve, two hour sessions, kids receive instruction in bike mechanics, bike safety, employment skills, communication skills and business concepts as they work on their bikes and help others fix their bikes. Teaching strategies include the mechanic's handbook, demonstrations and hands on activities. This work incentive program provides each participant the opportunity to earn a bicycle and helmet.
